The recent problems in accessing Covid-19 tests has affected several of our team members recently. This paper adds detail to a neat idea that we’ve also been discussing.

Roughly 1% of patients admitted with COVID-19 develop pneumothorax. This can occur without pre-existing lung disease or mechanical ventilation. Two thirds of patients survive, but age >70 years and acidosis are associated with poor prognosis.

⁦#GlenfieldRespTalks Ire Valero-SÔnchez⁩ does arguably most important job in the Dept: Integrated Care lead. Updating on developments to provide rapid expert response pre-hospital - clinic referral QC & feedback. Development of SDEC. COPD piloting the approaches. Strong MDT!

Radiology case of the week - Bronchial atresia: focal obliteration of the proximal segment of LLL bronchus & hyperinflation of the distal lung presenting as SOB & recurrent infection. Consider foreign body as differential diagnosis; surgical resection may be indicated.

During Covid we’ve used non invasive support ventilation in wider groups of patients than ever before. This paper suggests we should be doing this now in acute severe asthma too. Not an RCT but interesting findings in large cohort study atsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…
