Hard to see how the current #AssistedDying Bill can proceed when psychiatrists - on whom its proposals depend - do not support it. And for such a range of clinical & resource reasons.

This is FALSE. People with mental disorders are not excluded- just can't be their main reason. KL conflates mental disorder with mental capacity. Obviously she has no idea about care for suicidal people & no interest in proper safeguards for the vulnerable theguardian.com/society/2025/m…

Difficult to watch. When I have seen the Police managing delirious or cognitively impaired people, they have invariably been calm and containing.

Interesting motions put forward to @theBMA conference next month. Several very critical of BMA council response to Cass review - none in support.

As usual, it’s all about crisis response. Crisis response is NOT and will NEVER be a treatment for mental health problems, which is why patients regularly feel let down by the response they get. Mental heath treatment takes weeks, months, and sometimes years to be effective

For any Americans visiting London this summer after watching #MissionImpossibleTheFinalReckoning, just to let you know that Trafalgar Square tube station does not exist.

Lenny Cornwall (@lennycornwall) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is a really bad idea. Police will stop attending dangerous mental health incidents, patients and public will be left at risk. theguardian.com/society/2025/m…

When nonsense stalks the land do not be surprised when voters flock to the party prepared to say ā€˜This is nonsense’ even if that party is highly disreputable itself. (Share token, no paywall) thetimes.com/article/74ffe8…

Too many doctors I represent are facing unemployment in 8 weeks time. Following our recent emergency BMA Northern Resident Doctors Committee meeting, I have written to every CMO/ MD and DME in our region. We’re calling on trusts to protect & support northern’s doctors through August’s crisis.

Thoughts on ⁦NHS England⁩ urgent care plan: If you increase access to crisis without increasing capacity in inpatient & community, you will make the problem worse. If you increase the pressure to reduce length of stay, you will increase anxiety & have the opposite effect.

This study has not been peer-reviewed. My comments would be: you need to address the issue of whether the sample represents current profile of patients (sex at birth, mental health status) & your conclusions give an unduly positive view of the results. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

Hard to say this because it is a heartfelt piece but it shows exactly why the #AssistedDyingBill should be rejected. How the boundaries of AD are crossed & how society’s commitment to suicide prevention is ignored. theguardian.com/australia-news…

Lenny Cornwall (@lennycornwall) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This story exemplifies why Royal College of Psychiatrists opposes the #AssistedDyingBill. Man experiencing panic attacks & anticipatory grief dies by suicide, facilitated by the state. Horrible.

Not the main argument against #AssistedDyingBill that I would use, but it could be the best approach to use with Labour MPs. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
