Full Lewisham Council meeting last night - from 7.30 - 10.30pm - delighted that Mayor Brenda Dacres OBE named Lewisham Donation Hub as our charity this year. Much needed work at Place Ladywell to redistribute donations to those in need.

By the next General Election, 16 and 17 year olds will have the right to vote - ensuring young peoples' voices are heard. Labour promised it. Labour will deliver it.

So pleased to hear the Government confirm today that 16 & 17 year olds will have the vote. 10 years ago, I stood up in the Chamber calling to remove this barrier to political participation. I said it then and I will say it today: young people deserve to be heard.

Last night Cllr Mark Jackson and Cllr Yemisi Anifowose moved a motion on gambling reform. Lewisham have now joined a coalition of over 40 other councils calling for urgent reforms to tackle the harms caused by gambling and to restore decision making powers to local authorities.

As Chair of the Licensing Committee, I’m pleased to have seconded a motion on gambling reform. The current legislation is outdated and leaves councils with very limited powers to challenge applications. It’s time to empower councils to have genuine control over gambling licenses
