The Journal of Physiotherapy recently published an invited appraisal of our Australian Physical Activity Clinical Practice Guideline for people with moderate to severe TBI. Many thanks to MacStroke Canada for the fair and insightful commentary Leanne Hassett sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Really excited to publish the words of people with stroke and health professionals in Australia TL;DR: • People want #HIIT • Talk about intervals of relative intensity rather than ‘high intensity’ • More education is needed to increase confidence

A new preprint from our group demonstrates that self-reported physical activity may accurately identify individuals with low cardiorespiratory fitness and walking impairments after stroke. Check it out: 🔗medrxiv.org/content/10.110… memorylab MacStroke Canada

Eight weeks of intense cardiovascular training do not increase brain derived neurotrophic factor levels in patients with subacute stroke despite significant increases in cardiorespiratory fitness. journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

📣 My final PhD study has just been published! Liam Johnson Suzanne k A Thompson-Butel In a ‘healthy adult’ cohort ⬆️ lactate may indicate ⬆️ #BDNF, but there is no correlation 🤔 BUT being male or carrying the Val66Met polymorphism may change this dx.doi.org/10.1002/jnr.70…

Though high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can increase neurotrophin, improve cardiovascular health, & enhance recovery after #stroke, it's rarely prescribed. Authors identified key facilitators & barriers to HIIT use in patients & rehab professionals: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

Just published in Disability and Rehabilitation. A timed sit-to-stand test and prediction equation had no agreement with fitness in people with stroke. A simple test of fitness for people with stroke is required. Liam Johnson Gavin Williams Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Research Group doi.org/10.1080/096382…

My last PhD study was just published looking at the perspectives of people post-stroke who completed a 12-week HIIT trial. People post-stroke describe that HIIT is empowering and enables meaningful engagement in both ADLs and IADLs. Check it out below: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Have a moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury? We're looking for people aged 10+ to take a short survey (15-20 mins) on what physical activity you enjoy - sports, walking, classes, etc. Your input helps us advocate for better community options 🙌 sydney.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b1…

High-intensity #exercise training to stimulate recovery in the acute stage of #stroke: very effective (maybe we should use/investigate this more often?) 👇 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/15… Renaud AMANZONWE Peter Feys
