New paper alert wt Anne Kupczok : we found thousands of species-specific genes in the human gut microbiome (some with evid. of selection) and they mostly seem to be "grown locally" in bacteria, rather than transferred from phages. genome.cshlp.org/content/early/…

I am super excited that one of the most interesting finding in my lab was published in Nature Microbiology !! Have you heard about the fungus that helps carnivorous plants digest insects? 🐜🍃

Last work from the group out of the press in Nature Communications ! Here we looked at baker yeast 🥐🍺 through the single-cell lenses 🔎🦠 We found out genetically identical subpopulations with different behaviours emerging in response to amino acid identity. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Happy to share new work with some great collaborators! Gain- and loss-of-function alleles within signaling pathways lead to phenotypic diversity among individuals #yeast #signaling iScience journal Gianni Liti cell.com/iscience/fullt…

Always a pleasure to visit Leuven for the great science, wild beer and the finest Italian cuisine. Big congrats Dr. Cool, many thanks Karin, Sibylle Vonesch & Kevin Verstrepen for hosting me

big congrats Sakshi Khaiwal to have led this work on using machine learning to predict phenotypes from genome sequences, complementing GWAS to chart genotype-phenotype maps. Huge thanks to ANR - Agence nationale de la recherche Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale Université Côte d'Azur Région Sud CNRS 🌍 Inserm

big congrats Erik Garrison Andrea Guarracino and all the panteam for this landmark work, many thanks to have us (with (Lorenzo Tattini ) on board. I hope this is the first of many collaborations on yeast and beyond

great resource put together by the EvomicsLab that further help navigate budding yeast natural variation from reference quality genomes - led by Jia-Xing Yue (岳家兴) Jing Li (李婧) and major input from @G__Fischer lab 祝贺你!

Fresh preprint from brilliant PhD student Mariana Natalino! We asked how nutrients shape compensatory evolution to DNA replication stress. We find changes in cell physiology and adaptation rates, yet core genetic adaptation remains robust! Check out her post below for details!👇

Honoured to be among the 2024 Impulscience® laureate, thanks to all past and current members niceyeastlab to have make this happen, collaborators and colleagues for interactions and Fondation Bettencourt Schueller for such fantastic opportunity, merci! 🍾🍾🍾

Raclette in our office space is becoming our Xmas meal tradition niceyeastlab reaching a Michelin star quality level…

A deserved Neapolitan style pizza after our ANR - Agence nationale de la recherche meeting #buddy with @G__Fischer Bertrand Statistical Physics of Cells and Genomes on the yeast life cycle variations - see you all in June 👋
