Excited to share a new paper from Thu Phan! jvi.asm.org/content/early/… Here we used stranded RNA sequencing and a new computational pipeline we call InVERT (Influenza Virus Enumerator of RNA Transcripts) to simultaneously distinguish between mRNA, cRNA, and vRNA. 1/3

All this went down 5 years ago but it still makes me livid how completely my university and department failed its students. Hoping that others can learn from their mistakes and take steps to make academia safe and inclusive for everyone (instead of protecting abusers)

Excited to see that our review on evolutionary conflicts between viral proteases and the host immune system is out! frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…. This was a great team effort, led by the fantastic Brian Tsu and Liz Fay, and an outstanding group of undergraduates in the lab.

Thrilled to share our paper led by Liz Fay, Keir Balla, Keir Balla, @AFranOfScience out in Journal of Experimental Medicine using ‘dirty’ rodents as bridge between natural and laboratory settings to study within- and cross-species virus transmission. rupress.org/jem/article-ab… 1/5

Delighted to share a new story led by Shanley “Stan” Roach out now in JVirology Editors journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/jv… We sought to evaluate the role of tuft cells during acute influenza infection. There were lots of fun surprises along the way... 1/5

New preprint from my lab and Samara Reck-Peterson lab describing our evolution-guided discovery of a new host-virus conflict involving the dynein activating adaptor NINL! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Congrats to everyone, especially first authors D. Alexander Stevens and Chris Beierschmitt! 1/

New preprint out showing a cool new host- and virus-specific way that the immune system has evolved to sense coronavirus infection! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Congrats to everyone involved, especially force-of-nature first author Brian Tsu! 1/

I dessed as the Red Queen Hypothesis for Halloween this year. I was only missing a treadmill (so I could do all the running I could...)
