Incremental average and SD by awk. awk '{dx=$1-mx;mx+=dx/NR;dx2=dx*($1-mx)-vx} NR>1{vx+=dx2/(NR-1)} END{print mx,sqrt(vx)}' file Covariance is available by extending this idea. I saw this in Dr. Larry Schaeffer's course note although it should be a well-known method.

Congratulations Pernille! More #betterbarley (and grass) from QGG AU. I was involved in Pernille's thesis to map markers for root number in #barley, where mixed models failed but Bayesian mapping succeeded 🙂. Hopefully ready to submit soon!

I reviewed a paper where authors had increased their data size by adding genomic predicted phenotypes, and then did GWAS. Don't do it, it is flawed! The predicted phenos are basically copies of the training SNP effects, inflating the test statistics for GWAS. End of review ☹️

Don't know what it is with #plantsvszombies but the course is on #GenomicPrediction in #animals and #plants. The contents have been extended to address kernel methods for GxE and non-additive genetics and again with Guillaume Ramstein on the lecturing team.

Nice article by Kenny et al. (doi.org/10.1186/s12711…) on the variation in genomic relationships in full sibs. Raw relationships are avg 0.55 up to 0.85, after correcting for parent relationships and inbreeding they are nicely 0.5 with a range 0.4-0.6, as expected by theory🙂👍
