Brunei is handling the covid situation really well too. MOH efforts, MORA advisory, and the overseas-student communications from MOE. Pretty impressive.

Students who need financial help because of #COVID19 can now apply for 2 different Carnegie Mellon assistance funds. Current students and 2020 grads are eligible and the process takes about a minute. All are encouraged to apply. cmu.is/assistance

CMU S21: 95 days of class, generating ~1100 CMU emails, ~2000 emails if non-CMU included, missing count for DAILY COVID SURVEY emails rage-deleted. <100 of those emails were useful (replied/from advisors). I'd vote for a SBP that campaigns on less spam from admin and orgs...

I wonder how other people remember deadlock prevention's wound-wait / wait-die? (each stick person's speech bubble describes what they will do if the other person gets the lock; bigger stick person = older transaction)

The final projects in this semester's Advanced Database Systems course were *very* impressive. This is the first time I've taught the course not using a DBMS that we were building at CMU. The students picked PostgreSQL + @DuckDB for their implementations: 15721.courses.cs.cmu.edu/spring2023/pro…
