Our new study found a clear fall in the proportion of smokers receiving a brief intervention during the pandemic, although there was some evidence that this started to reverse by 2022. Interestingly this reversal was clearer in lower socioeconomic groups.

New study led by Vera Buss finds no evidence to suggest implementation of standardised packaging of tobacco products (incl. minimum pack sizes) was associated with meaningful changes in adult cigarette consumption or smoking prevalence among young adults. tobaccocontrol.bmj.com/content/early/…

New from me (response to Hall) The ends do not justify the means when it comes to Australia's vaping policy "Making e-cigarettes harder to access is keeping them from those who need them and feeds into a system which maintains inequalities." onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ad…

New paper published today in the BMJ finds a sharp increase in the proportion of adults reporting vaping for >6 months since 2021, particularly at younger ages. Suggests the recent rise in vaping among young adults is not purely experimentation. Around half of >6m vapers now

New paper led by Sharon Cox investigates whether e-cigarettes are more effective for smoking cessation if they’re bought from vape shops vs other sources. TLDR: they might be, but more data are needed - adjusted OR=1.25 [95%CI 0.92-1.76] academic.oup.com/ntr/advance-ar…
