Coming to the end of an excellent #Goldschmidt2023. It has been brilliant catching up with many people, having fab discussions on #lithium #pegmatites & #rareearths. Highlights included keynotes by Anita Parbhakar-Fox & Dr Melanie Finch & great LiFT presentations. Tired now!

You may think this is a standard mica schist... But it's in fact part of a shear(?) zone in an LCT pegmatite! Pure spessartine garnets in a matrix of qz+ab+lithian muscovite. Pegmatite from Zimbabwe. #thinsectionthursday #pegmatite

Throwback to this time last year for #FieldworkFriday - seeing the largest Spodumene (an important #Lithium ore mineral) crystals I've ever seen in Plumbago North, Maine! Unfortunately not even close to the largest ever recorded - 14.3 meters in Etta Mine, S Dakota 😯

Our last presentation for the morning session is from Lot Koopmans, who studies LCT pegmatites, which supply the majority of the world's lithium and caesium. Lot's research examines how these rocks form and where they can be found!
