The biggest myth pushed by alcohol, gambling & other harmful industries is about individual responsibility. This is hugely harmful because it takes the focus off companies who are intentionally causing harms to maximise profits. #ourdemocracy #healthydemocracy

Communities should not have to fight large companies like Endeavour (a multi billion dollar alcohol & gambling company) to try to prevent or reduce this harm. The balance of power is weighted too much on the side of these companies, whose motive is profit - not health. 3/

Our kids are being targeted on social media by ads for gambling, alcohol, and junk food. We spend millions of dollars dealing with the consequences, when we should be tackling the root cause - the aggressive marketing of these harmful products.

Language matters. Journalists need to do better when talking about #GamblingHarms and the real reasons behind it. People are not the problem. The real problem is the products and the business model. Language guide here agr.org.au/language-guide…

Really pleased to see our paper out, discussing the Odds Are: They Win campaign - an innovative approach to raising awareness of #gambling harms. Crucially, the campaign focuses on industry behaviour, not “personal responsibility” sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
