This piece gives an overview of "Virtue in Virtual Spaces," as well as the origin story of this project! A number of influences in my life inspired this research, including my high school English class, my first software engineering job, and my work in ministry. Read more here ⤵️

Our paper was (cond.) accepted to #CHI2025! In this paper we propose an approach to translate abstract ethics into concrete designs that promote the common good. This was a surreal experience! I'm so grateful to be sing with the Magnificat Choir as I pursue my PhD at Notre Dame (Keep watching past the rough few notes at the beginning haha turns out it's hard to start singing a cappella spontaneously)

I passed my oral candidacy exam today and have been upgraded from PhD student to PhD candidate 😎 Special shout out to my committee member Dr. Karla Badillo-Urquiola (Dr. KB) for making sure I got a picture with my slides too!

#CHI2025 recap: I got to catch up with old academic friends and meet new ones, and it was especially a treat to meet so many scholars whose work I’ve read and cited. It was also such a gift to present a paper so central to my dissertation in the country where I was raised 🇯🇵

Today I received my Masters in Computer Science and Engineering! 👩‍🎓👩‍💻 Although I’m in a PhD program, not a masters program, it’s nice to finally have a graduate degree to show for my four years in grad school 😃 Next up is the PhD, expected in 2026 or 2027! (God willing 😅)

Excited and grateful to share that our book won two Catholic media awards!

I was so honored to read and give feedback on a draft of their AI and Catholic education book at this meeting. There are exciting things coming down the pipeline from the Vatican AI research group!

Inspired by Louisa Conwill's work, I wrote a short piece on subsidiarity as a guiding principle for open source AI in the latest issue of the Red Hat Research Quarterly. research.redhat.com/blog/article/w…
