Every single young colleague I have who went to fee-paying school has had their parents pay their uni fees. Many parents saw them as 'cheap' compared to private school fees. Now they are paying a much lower effective marginal tax rate than their working class peers.

If people want a really decent well taught Under graduate degree go where the best teachers are which is not usually Russel Group Universities its the Post-92s but they dont have the symbolic value despite having the best teaching
