Could astrocyte biomarkers contribute to biologically understand AD🧠? Check out this amazing meta-analysis led by Bruna Bellaver! Very happy to be involved for the 1st time in a paper w/ this team Lucas Da Ros Douglas Leffa Rosa Neto, Pedro - Elena Rodriguez-Vieitez Eduardo Zimmer 🦋 n.neurology.org/content/early/…

🚨 In this study led by João Pedro Ferrari-Souza, we showed clinical evidence of astrocyte heterogeneity in the living AD brain. While CSF GFAP levels reflect a response to Aβ pathology, CSF YKL- 40 levels reflect a response to tau pathology. nature.com/articles/s4138… rdcu.be/cTp0C.

This week I was at Caminha, in Portugal 🇵🇹 attending the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN) Advanced School! Here’s a brief overview of what I experienced as a first-time attendee 🤓 #WeAreNeurochemistry 🧶

🚨 New Study just out in The Lancet Global Health 🧠 Lucas Da Ros, Wyllians Borelli, Cristiano Schaffer Aguzzoli & colleagues used a machine learning model to determine the most important risk factors for cognitive and functional decline in Brazil and other Latin American Countries 🧶1👇 thelancet.com/journals/langl…

🧩 Social and health determinants were more significant than classical demographics risk factors in all Latin American Countries, with important differences among them. 🧶2

📊 Education emerged as the most impactful risk factor for cognitive decline in Brazil, while Mental Health was the most impactful for functional deterioration. 🧶3

We could also see an impact of Brazilian geographical regions in the model for predicting risk factors for cognitive and functional decline. We evidenced worst cognitive scores in North and Northeast, while only Northeast presented worst functional scores. 🧶4

📢 Our findings point out the significance of individually understanding the risk factors for cognitive impairment and dementia in each specific region, rather than adopting a generalist, broad, one-size-fits-all approach. 🧶5
