If there is one chart that damns our fiscal establishment it is this. During a period of historically low interest rates we utterly failed to lock them in when issuing our national debt. Basically zero shift even when rates started rising again...

NEW: Today's DWP data on 23/24 is shocking: ❌Food insecurity up: 7.2m to 7.5m ppl ❌Food bank use up: 2.3m to 2.8m ppl ❌3m disabled ppl facing hunger, 1.2m at food banks Is this really the time to cut disabled ppl's lifelines? We cannot push ppl deeper into hunger and hardship

More private renters are now in poverty than social renters. 4.8 million private renters are in poverty, up almost 300,000 on the previous year. Of these, almost 2 million are only in poverty when we factor in housing costs – around 40% of those in poverty.

25% of Britain is now ‘disabled’. If true, the British state in the last decade has created more disabled people than two world wars did, combined.

And it’s not even a good grad tax: the rich can buy their way out of it by not taking out the loans in the first place. Therefore grads from poorer families end up with a de facto higher rate of income tax than richer ones.
