Published today Frontiers - Oncology: Phenotyping of CD45+ xenografts from the TRACERx lung cancer patient-derived xenograft (PDX) study. IgL/IgK restriction suggests primary tumours can contain multiple B cell clones with lymphoproliferative potential. doi.org/10.3389/fonc.2…

We found high acceptance of smoking cessation referrals during #lungcancerscreening Opt-out had 50% uptake but ++ evidence more effective to arrange support doi.org/10.1111/add.16… Led by Evangelos Katsampouris PhD, CPsychol T.Kotti Lungs for Living Mamta @Jo_WallerKCL Wolfson Institute of Population Health NCSCT

RESEARCH: New work with Paolo De Coppi and Dr Claire Smith UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health out Biomaterials. We perform decell and recell of rat lungs with human airway basal cells, creating a novel RSV infection model. Introducing human neutrophils to the system is also feasible. 1/2

Thomas Callender and colleagues present a development and validation study using parsimonious ensemble machine learning models to assess eligibility for lung cancer screening. doi.org/10.1371/journa… @tomcallender LungSpecialist UCL Health Lungs for Living Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine

AI model could predict lung cancer risk using a quarter of the information needed by current models. The findings from Prof Sam Janes Lungs for Living & Dr Tom Callender DoM_UCL UCL Faculty of Medical Sciences with Mihaela van der Schaar Cambridge University could simplify national screening ucl.ac.uk/news/2023/oct/…

Incredibly honoured that our work has been recognised! Our work is computational, focussing on using data to understand cancer - we are entirely reliant on wonderful collaborators and public data. (& generous funders Wellcome CRUKCOLcentre CRUK Lung Centre Rosetrees Trust)

Our new paper Molecular Therapy provides proof-of-concept for a combined cell and gene therapy for airway epidermolysis bullosa (EB). With colleagues Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, we investigated airway disease in EB, a group of rare genetic disorders involving defective cell adhesion 🧵... (1/8)

Also much Barts Thorax Centre involvement in this great work by our Lungs for Living colleagues.

Thank you so much ATS_RCMB for the Andy Tager Award for Excellence in Mentoring! Such special moment #ATS2024 to celebrate with amazing mentees & colleagues. All RCMB Rockstars ⭐️🥰 Thank you for your support & grateful to have you in my life 🙏 #thefutureisbright American Thoracic Society (ATS)

Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models allow cancer researchers to study tumour tissue from patients in mice. Our CRUK Lung Centre paper Nature Communications describes 48 new PDX models and highlights the importance of intratumor heterogeneity in the development of cancer models (1/9)

🚨 New preprint! With Lungs for Living and UKRMP Engineered Cell Environment Hub colleagues, we performed phenotypic screening to identify compounds that might promote lung regeneration by inducing primary airway basal cell proliferation. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Here's a 🧵 breaking down our findings:

🚨Today our airway basal cell proliferation screening work is published J Cell Science! We found that multiple Wnt activating compounds promote basal cell proliferation and validated 1-azakenpaullone in vivo. doi.org/10.1242/jcs.26…
