1/3: Happy #wrensday from everyone at ANU Superb Fairy-Wren Project. Check out this photo of one of our male #superbfairywrens looking dapper in his breeding plumage, taken by @McLachlan_JR. Notice the bands on his legs?

So excited that the first fairy-wren-related chapter of my PhD is now up in preprint! Fairy-wrens face survival senescence right from when they hit maturity, but reproductive senescence is much rarer, only effecting the oldest age classes.

It took three years, had three declines, added two year more sample sizes and had one round of revision with 168 comments, finally accepted!

We had tried several kinds of tags since 2012, finally tracked the migration of one hair-crested drongo! Many interesting findings: migrate at night, fly 475 km in one night, almost a straight line for 2090 km, stop nearby national/provincial borderlines, wintering territory···

Another good news: after the tracked male, a female was also successfully tracked by another kind of solar GPS tag. Those few points figured out her wintering area and most of the migration route. This female was wintering much further south than the former male.

680km in one night! One female hair-crested drongo start her migration at such a speed. Because she is eager to see Typhoon Kompasu?

A love story: a female (yellow) and a male (red) hair-crested drongo reunited as a pair, although wintering 300km away from each other.

I'll give a talk at the University of Hong Kong (14:30-15:50, Beijing time GMT+8, 28 March). Show my recent works on Superb Fairy-wrens and Hair-crested Drongos. Everyone is welcome.
