It seems to me that many have still not fully accepted that Trump simply does not want to play the role that Europeans want him to play. He does not want to provide security guarantees for 🇺🇦, neither in the first nor in the second line. No 'strong US backing' will materialize.

There's a big difference between trade deals and trade agreements. Trade deals are limited, short term, and often superficial (remember IPEF?). Trade agreements are comprehensive, long term, substantive, and require Congressional approval. US isn't doing the latter.
