Excited to share this emerging work at #cosyne2023. We (Pavithra Rajeswaran, A. Payeur, & Guillaume Lajoie) explore how decoding algorithms in BCI influence neural representations learned by the brain πŸ‘‡ If you're there in person, be sure to check out poster 3-094 on Saturday.

The sensorimotor neural engineering lab at UC Berkeley (neuralengatberkeley.github.io) is getting ready for its opening in July! To help get going I’m looking to hire a research engineer to help build new behavioral setups, contribute to lab codebases, and data management.

Good morning to readers. Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands. Please RT this thread. It’s an important one. Some news: I’m leaving NPR as part of the layoffs that dramatically cut the org's workforce. I’ve decided to go back into Ukraine to keep reporting. But this time, alone.

This talk by Katherine Perks aoLab starts explaining the problem of task performance link to internal models. And it has all the components I love: internal models of motor control + motor remapping + task performance + r/StardewValley = perfect

Exciting new work from my colleagues Sam Burden (he/him) & L Ratliff arxiv.org/abs/2305.01124 They apply game theory to humans interacting w/ adaptive machines. Turns out machines can steer the game to influence people's behavior. And this doesn't require the machine to model the human🀯

New preprint; time for a #tweeprint! When we learn a new skill like riding a bike, we often use training wheels to help us. Does that influence what we learn? Pavithra Rajeswaran, Alex Payeur, Guillaume Lajoie and I used BCIs & RNN models to find out. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/too manyπŸ˜…

New preprint where we explore using eye data as a training signal for adaptive myoelectric interfaces. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… The gist: gaze data could let algorithms adapt in less structured tasks by giving a proxy for what users are trying to do. More of a breakdown soon!

New preprint, so #tweeprint time: Humans and machines dynamically interact in neural interfaces. Can we analyze & predict these interactions? We solve this w/ an interdisciplinary approach led by Maneeshika Madduri as part of a close collab with Sam Burden (he/him) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
