Given potential NSF/NIH funding cuts, the following years will be especially tough. Faculty positions and PhD offers this year will be more valuable than ever. The US risks losing top global talent—investment in research and education is investment in the future.

If you value leading industry AI labs like OpenAI, DeepMind, FAIR, and xAI, you should value graduate programs in the US even more. Most top researchers in these labs were first drawn to and trained by academic research institutions in the US. Invest more in it is the right way.
