to be clear, like 50% of the reason I get requests like this has to do with our "leading historians" and professional orgs promoting the historian as pundit and expert commentator on everything. literally can't think of a worse look for our profession

This is absolutely not the kind of Latin you would learn at liberal arts college, it’s the kind of Latin you learn from a hot quotes website and that’s a critical distinction

right, "easy" and "hard" aren't meaningful descriptors in the humanities--it's more good/bad (which is less subjective than you think, actually). that said, it's a lot easier to do difficult math than it is to do good writing
