Malihe Alikhani There is a tradeoff here – while aligning with user expectations may streamline workflows, it can also reinforce biases, reduce exposure to diverse ideas, and stifle innovation. Indeed a large innovation literature highlights the importance of combining new ideas.

AI sycophancy can partially be addressed through public policy, and Malihe Alikhani argues legislation like the Artificial Intelligence Civil Rights Act of 2024 and the Stop Spying Bosses Act help by emphasizing equitable and responsible AI use.
