My lab was totally destroyed tonight by an Iranian missile. Nobody was hurt. Flies, plasmids, cells, equipment - all gone. Heart breaking. If during the course of the past 16 years, you have received something from my lab - please keep them safe.

My lab at Weizmann Institute was completely demolished by the Iranian missile a few days ago. This is hard and sad as nothing was left to save. We study heart regeneration and regenerative medicine. As such, we will regenerate, regrow and rebuild. The one thing that wasn't gone is

#ThinSectionThursday cathodoluminescence of fluorapatite and REE mineralisation from Nolans Bore, Australia. Other than being spectacular eye candy, this is very informative and tells quite a lot about the ore. Yay science! Image taken at CSIRO Microbeam Lab.

Pro writing tip: When proof-reading a paper before submission or revision, change the font and print it out on paper. Trust me, you will find so many mistakes you had no idea were there, even though you've read the thing a million times on your computer screen.

Due to neighbourhood wood heaters, we’re getting complaints from around Canberra of laundry needing to be rewashed and of coming home to a house full of smoke. It’s sad that some Canberrans don’t think or care about the impact they have on the health and lives of others.

We tried to measure an apatite composition using many different methods and failed miserably, so we wrote a paper about it. Available at the Journal of Materials Chemistry B: doi.org/10.1039/D5TB01…
