I co-run Hero Records, I like food and socialism, so expect posts about all three. Oh, and about Kings Heath, the best part of Birmingham!

Just like successive governments in the mid 20th Century, the current govt is intentionally running down Birmingham by forcing the city to flog assets to pay the treasury and our local leaders are silent. This could have been a grant not a loan.

The UK spends 1% of its GDP on infrastructure at a time when everything is falling apart and bad transport is the main shackle on our economy, not to mention our largest source of GHGs... Yet:

I've decided to try bringing over some Easter Panettone for the first time, seeing as Christmas Panettone went down so well. Big thanks to The Early Bird Bakery for selling it online for me, which means delivery within 6 miles is available! order.storekit.com/the-early-bird…

I'll be doing a Panettone pop-up at Grace and James in Kings Heath again today, from about 1pm. Come get the best Panettone you can buy! I've also got jars of fabulous Gianduja and White Chocolate Pistachio sauces, too.

It’s scandalous that people who drive have been subsidised by everyone else up until now, especially when drivers routinely damage beauty spots by parking badly and there’s no recourse to recoup the cost of fixing or maintaining them. These parking charges should be higher.

More in Common This government is willing to do unpopular things to save a few hundred million Yet restoring fuel duty to pre-2022 levels would save billions. Ministers have not been thanked for keeping petrol prices low — they may as well be brave and raise them again thetimes.com/article/18cd00…

My controversial opinion today is that we should stop knowingly killing 30,000 people annually and sabotaging our economy to the tune of £27bn per year. And that we should listen to doctors when they tell us this. theguardian.com/environment/20…

That entire big shed retail park needs demolishing and replacing with a few hundred car-free 3 bed flats overlooking the park/railway line, fronting the high street and with generous green courtyards

The WMCA are consulting on changes in legislation that would enable them to adapt the Key Route Network to evolving needs. Exactly what that means is unclear but we should support the change and a wider conversation about the road network. 🧵 wmdevolution.commonplace.is

I feel strongly that the deselection of Councillor David Barker by the central party is a disgrace. He's been a fantastic councillor. If you agree, feel free to add your signature to my petition: chng.it/2DdsGyR8KS

Cllr Barker was a strong advocate for York Road’s pedestrianisation, opposed library cuts and on planning committee secured significant improvements to a number of schemes as well as successfully saving the markets from demolition. Labour will lose Kings Heath without him.
