As in other US IOOS regions exposed to hurricanes and typhoons, CARICOOS, in collaboration with NOAA/AOML, has commenced the deployment of hurricane gliders in PR and USVI waters. Ocean salinity and temperature data collected by them provide for more accurate hurricane forecasts.
