More and more stories from former editors about bad experiences in handling/reviewing papers of big #openacess players such as FrontiersIn or MDPI. I had similar experiences with MDPI. ☝️Please, carefully check journals before submitting manuscripts. Don't support this. ☝️

In Icelandic🇮🇸, but with drawings speaking for themselves - trenchant graphical contribution on whaling, which most countries banned as ecologically, ethically, and economically untenable. Will Iceland ban it? If this gains traction, it could eventually be happening 🐳🌊🐋💙.

Finally out - Phylogenetic relationships of arguably the most complex (and beautiful) oomycete genus - Rhipidium. A collaboration of Ichen Tsai and me. Many riddles of these remarkable organisms still to be solved ✨🦚.

Happy to announce that our TrEase (building phylogenetic Trees with Ease) web service is now both accessible at thines-lab.senckenberg.de/trease/ and citable, as it has now been announced in the "Breakthroughs and Resources" section of Mycological Progress ✨🔓✨😀. link.springer.com/content/pdf/10…

Introducing a model system for algae/pathogen interactions - Sirolpidium litorale infecting Urospora neglecta from the Blávík research station shore 🇮🇸🙂. High quality genomes coming soon. Anyone interested in receiving strains - just let me know ✨💦! OA link.springer.com/content/pdf/10…

Introducing ✨ Miracula polaris ✨ - a beautiful new oomycete species infecting cold-loving species of Melosira - of which some form dense mats under sea ice. Found in a rock pool at our research station Blávík in East Iceland 🇮🇸. tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10.10…

Good #Egíls Brewery produces malt extract😅. Sometimes work in Blávík requires improvising a bit, but on the plus side there are a nice view and air so clean that you don't need a laminar flow hood😁.

The #oomycete and marine fungi session today was crowded! Talk from Marco Thines and Anthony Buaya described several new species and had some gnarly videos of zoospores. Great chance for me to learn more about oomycetes beyond the couple plant pathogens I work with. #IMC12

That would be awesome🙂. Any form of biodiversity deserves protection, no matter if animals🐝, plants 🌱, fungi🍄, oomycetes [not even an icon for them 😅], or other beings that are integral parts of the global ecosystems.

Diatoms are great for studying host-pathogen interactions. Our manuscript on Ulnaria parasitoids has recently been published - link.springer.com/article/10.100… - featuring also the description of the new chytrid genus Jónasia, honouring a great person from Fáskruðsfjörður.
