Even though it’s raining, it’s a beautiful day! The Commissioners Court has just approved $35M of ARPA funding to Mobile Loaves & Fishes to house some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Thank you to all the advocates who worked tirelessly to make this happen.

Today we took a major step toward addressing homelessness in Travis County. The Commissioners Court approved a $35 million dollar contract with Mobile Loaves & Fishes for 640 supportive housing units. It’s part of the $110 million we allocated to address the issue in September 2021.

Proactive, compassionate action from local leaders to help our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Demonizing this community won’t help them. Divisive politics at their expense won’t make a difference. These steps will.

In 1980, Margaret Gomez became Travis County’s first elected female Constable. In 1995 she became the first Mexican-American woman to serve as a Travis County Commissioner. Gomez is one of the longest-serving elected officials in Travis County.

Increasing access to quality, affordable childcare is the key to unlocking economic opportunity throughout our community, and I want to thank our Travis County TX partners for taking the lead on this community-wide effort to invest in a robust, equitable childcare system.
