I voted for Democrats up and down the ballot! I also was proud to support local bonds such as the ACC Bond, which will help facilitate construction of a new campus in Precinct 4. Get out there and vote!

104 years ago today, my great-uncle Jose Tomas Canales, who represented the RGV & was the only non-Anglo at the time, filed House Bill 5 calling for reforms of the TX Rangers, ultimately produced evidence of widespread violence by Rangers & others along the Border. #RGV #Txlege

Even though it’s raining, it’s a beautiful day! The Commissioners Court has just approved $35M of ARPA funding to Mobile Loaves & Fishes to house some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Thank you to all the advocates who worked tirelessly to make this happen.

Today we took a major step toward addressing homelessness in Travis County. The Commissioners Court approved a $35 million dollar contract with Mobile Loaves & Fishes for 640 supportive housing units. It’s part of the $110 million we allocated to address the issue in September 2021.

Proactive, compassionate action from local leaders to help our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Demonizing this community won’t help them. Divisive politics at their expense won’t make a difference. These steps will.

In Travis County, as it is nationally, being homeless, having a mental health need, or being incarcerated are key indicators you are at a higher risk of an accidental drug overdose death.🧵
