In June, DC State Board of Ed passed a resolution recommending Council of DC to pass legislation on Seizure Safe Schools. 🎉Exciting news earlier this month CM Allen's Team introduced B25-0571 Seizure-Safe Schools Amendment Act of 2023, which is now noticed 🤝 #SafeSchools #DCSBOE

When #Ward6 resident Oliver asked if classroom staff would know what to do if a student had a seizure, Councilmember_RobertWhite & Charles Allen took action. They introduced a bill to require seizure response training in every school to keep students safe. (1/2)

Today, the Council unanimously approved the Seizure-Safe Schools Act in the first of two votes. Modeled on laws in 23 states, including VA & MD, this bill will make our schools safer for students with epilepsy. Thank you, Oliver, for inspiring change! (2/2)

Thrilled that the Council passed the #SeizureSafeSchools Act today, which I introduced with CM Allen's Team. This bill was brought to us by a young DC resident and #Epilepsy advocate, Oliver, with help from DC State Board of Ed, and schools will be safer because of it.

So proud that Council passed the #SeizureSafeSchools Act today. And even more proud that the idea for this bill came from young DC advocates w/#Epilepsy who wanted to make school safer for themselves & other students. With this bill voted into law, their passion becomes progress.
