A threat to all scientists in Germany, particularly to postdocs: On 17 March the German Ministry of Science released a paper on the planned amendment of the German Act on Temporary Scientific Contracts. Contracts for postdocs shall be limited to 3 years - then you are out!.....

Better late they never: Apparently they listened and the #WissZeitVG with its new „3 year postdoc rule“ is going back to the drawing board. let’s hope it will actually be improved and lead to better perspectives for researchers!

The bidirectional computation achieves luminance invariant behavior and facilitates dim light vision. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… Awesome collaboration w/ Marion Silies led by Madhura Ketkar & Shuai Shao combining imaging, behavior & modeling to uncover this multifaceted computation

We need concerted action to let politicians know that limiting postdoc time is a really bad idea, especially in the life sciences. Speak up and rise!

We are releasing a whole-brain connectome of the fruit fly, including ~130k annotated neurons and tens of millions of typed synapses! Explore the connectome: codex.flywire.ai Reconstruction paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Annotation paper: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/6

You thought that visual systems are highly homogeneous structures? We thought so, too, before exploring connectivity across the fly optic lobes in a large group effort, using the Flywire connectome. FlyWire Check out our recent preprint here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Very excited to share this manuscript. Great work led by Burak GĂĽr showing how visual systems (in flies at least) process information stably in changing natural environments.
