One of the fun things about the Grand Egyptian Museum is the buggy that takes you from ticketing to the main entrance. Every museum needs buggies!

If you drop five white pebbles in Yorkshire’s River Ouse right when the Minster clock chimes at one a.m. on the 1st of May, you’ll see your past, present and future. That seems like something most sane people would wish to avoid, but you do you.  #FolkloreThursday

This is one of the most impressive pieces of architecture I’ve ever seen. And by a Dublin based couple of architects - Heneghan Peng Architects. Róisín Heneghan and her husband Shi-Fu Peng. Even the details of the many names of Egypt in the main door columns are perfectly placed.

Today is #InternationalDayofCharity. Did you know the Belfast Charitable Society was founded over 270 years ago, in 1752, to help Belfast’s poor? They opened a Poor House and Infirmary in 1774, initially caring for about 70 people. As Belfast grew, so did the demand.

Today marks #Internationaldayofliteracy and the Belfast Charitable Society, like other welfare organisations, believed that education was the best means to stop the cycle of poverty by giving children the knowledge and skills to make a living for themselves when they are older.

BCS was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1774 which gave it additional civic responsibilities including street paving, planning permission & street lighting. Indeed, it brought piped water to Belfast on a large scale.

This month, we’re highlighting the Mary Ann McCracken Foundation. Launched in Jan 2021 by the BCS, it celebrates Mary Ann’s life & legacy—raising awareness of her achievements and supporting causes close to her heart: education, poverty relief, human rights, and women’s equality.
