New Yorkers confronted Mayor Eric Adams about his budget cuts: why is he cutting ~8% from schools, CUNY, libraries, & social services, while funding NYPD overtime, misconduct, & robot dogs, & Dept. of Corrections abuse & mismanagement? Eric lied & called us disrespectful. #CareNotCuts

Yesterday, as a NYC teacher, I joined activists from peoplesplannyc.bsky.social to call out Mayor Eric Adams abt his cuts to NYC Public Schools , libraries, The City University of New York. Saddened to find a mayor more concerned w/selfies rather than real concerns of constituents & city workers abt his massive cuts #carenotcuts

Charters receive both state and private aid. While public schools only receive public aid, an increase in charters will only continue to rob public school students #Dontraisethecap Smitha #PalestineWillBeFree vc: CRT is American History. #Periodttt

Mayor falsely claims he’s not cutting school budgets when DOE officials admitted at Council hearings the budget would include more cuts to schools further & then last week he announced an additional 3% cut to DOE totaling about $421 million.

Last week when asked by a group of educators & faith leaders, Mayor Eric Adams denied he was cutting schools, CUNY, libraries & essential services by ~8%. Today a group of DOE parents & CUNY students confronted him to demand answers & #CareNotCuts. Email him now: actionnetwork.org/letters/people…

Here we go setting up Adams as “moderate” again... Right wingnut former Republicans are NOT moderate. And there's nothing “moderate” about 30% pay increases to the police while cutting schools, libraries, and essential services to NYers by Billions of $$$. nytimes.com/2023/04/18/nyr…

Billionaire Ken Griffin ($35B net worth) gives $25m to success academy. Meanwhile NY paid nearly $11m in rent for FY23 for success academy charters in NYC while the charter network has the highest cash reserves ($49m in 2021) & unrestricted assets out of any charter in NYS.

“You don’t do it for the money.” Says the mayor while he’s in the middle of contract negotiations with us teachers.

Our "progressive mayor" Eric Adams attended a fundraiser at the home of former mayor Rudy Giuliani's cousin (also named Rudy Giuliani) asking his Republican friends for money.  So we showed up too (with some friends) -- and made sure he heard our message: We need #CareNotCuts

Hundreds of New Yorkers came together to rally and march today with peace and love and our hearts and Mayor Eric Adams’s bad budget on our minds. #CareNotCuts #WeProtectUs

Always a great time when we can hit the streets with a few hundred of our closest friends to let Mayor Adams know we need #CareNotCuts. That means fully funding NYC public schools, CUNY, and 3K & Pre-K! #CareNotCriminalization

About this evening… We marched to call for #CareNotCriminization. We got the boot instead. And a massive police presence that arrested four members of the march security team. Mayor, is this your official response to New Yorkers calling for community investments?

What. The. F? Is Eric Adams really floating idea of NYPD community affairs to teach English instead of hiring more ESL teachers? Bc of NYPD's astronomical budget & illegitimate power, they employ 1 out of every 6 municipal govt workers... This isn't good govt, this is BAD.
