Fans and police have started to gather outside of Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, the church that in a couple of hours will hold the funeral of Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota. 🇵🇹 People have hung the national team’s shirt out of windows facing the church.

A line of fans, many in football shirts, others holding flowers has now gathered outside of the church here in Gondomar. Carlos grew up watching Diogo Jota play and drove an hour here to pay his respects this morning he said: ‘He was a great footballer but also a great human’

The courtyard of the church in Gondomar is now filling up with the service expected to start in 20 minutes time. Some people are stood on walls to try and catch sight of some of those coming to pay their respects. A lot of young children have come with their parents.

Bells have been ringing here in Gondomar as the funeral of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva has begun. Members of the Liverpool team arrived carrying two floral tributes, red shirts with white numbers, 20 & 30, the numbers worn by Diogo and Andre.
