Some further polling on how the tax increase kite flying is going. Clearly the 8.15am presser hasn’t cut through, no matter how it’s spun. It’s now landing as a failure to manage, not to inherit. The “Tory inheritance” line isn’t washing, and neither is blaming everyone else.

This is absurd — the pension age change for women was announced in the 1993 budget, which was televised nationally. It was then legislated two years later. Millions of letters were sent. There were countless broadcast reports, print articles and online explainers. No secret.
