My annual reminder that basketball has a Scottish history. James Naismith’s mum was from Glasgow and his dad was born in Lanarkshire. Naismith visited Glasgow as a boy and saw himself as Scottish, walking around McGill campus in a kilt, and liked to quote Burns.

Just in time for Christmas, the best present. My new book, G.D.H. Cole and British Sociology: A Study in Semi-Alienation. Is now published. Really pleased with this.

I’ve started 2025 out well, this is a miraculous book. Found in one of the best bookshops, Leakey’s in Inverness, it appears to be out of print in English. If you ever see it in a bookshop, buy it.
