This movie ends up hitting harder in 2025 than it has at any time since 2009. At least in Up in the Air, the company ultimately realized that firing people over video chat was in poor taste

One of my favorite things about the new NAKED GUN is how Brandon Trost shot it like Jan de Bont. The whole film looks great - it has a 90's BASIC INSTINCT feel to it. Anamorphic with strong contrast. It's lit like a real movie, not just for coverage.

I feel like the screenshots of the "The Wizard of Oz at Sphere" do NOT do justice to how absolutely terrible it looks in motion. Watching how this is edited/moves to get to that Neil Breen-ass background is so much worse than whatever you're picturing in your head:

Remember how one of the things that made people most angry about Enron was how egregiously Enron screwed their employees who they had encouraged to invest heavily in Enron stock? Everyone agreed that it was an appalling, immoral thing to do and people went to prison? Just nasty

Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne (Elizabeth, Emma, Mary, Queen of Scots) has joined "Practical Magic 2," the sequel to the 1998 Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman film

Do we think any of the following films are still going to show up at any of the fall festivals, or do we expect to not get them until next year? & Sons (Pablo Trapero) At the Sea (Kornél Mundruczó) The Collaboration (Kwame Kwei-Armah) The Drama (Kristoffer Borgli) The Fence

This is a good way to describe a thing I have some trouble communicating without sounding snobby. THE NAKED GUN and the ZAZ movies generally are very writerly, very literate movies. Not *literary,* mind you. But they’re jokes that work *on the page* first and foremost.

CAPTAIN MARVEL, SHAZAM!, and AVENGERS: ENDGAME were released within six weeks of each other in March and April 2019. While school was in session. They grossed a collective $4.3 billion worldwide. It’s a different time. People have to accept this. It’s good for movies long term.

I feel like being distributed by Angel Studios, which people associate mostly with Christian and/or right wing movies has kind of unfairly caused this one to go under the radar. Seems like the kind that film Twitter should be going crazy about. Hope WOM spreads more

Honestly I think it was probably pretty normal for 90s kids to be super into Calvin and Hobbes. I was, as were a lot of people I knew. Bill Waterson definitely captured lightning in a bottle there with something that played equally well to 9 year olds and adults

Disney bought Fox and stripped it for parts so that a better-reviewed, MCU-affiliated reboot could have post-debut legs as bad as FANT4STIC, eventual global grosses on par with the ANT-MAN films and “tickets sold” earnings essentially tied with the 2005 FANTASTIC FOUR?

Se7en works because Brad Pitt’s character is kind of stupid. It makes for great contrast with Freeman’s intelligent, jaded veteran and it’s necessary to buy the impulsive decisions he makes that lead to the tragic ending. I just couldn’t buy Denzel playing someone that dumb

We had a lot in the first fifteen years tbh. Particularly back when we had big theatrical comedies. The Will Ferrell-Adam McKay collaborations produced a bunch that were quoted frequently for years as did the first Hangover, Dodgeball and Mean Girls. Why So Serious from TDK

Need someone who’s a member of NYFCC or LAFCA to do this as a bit during the first round of voting for the screenplay award and then watch it slowly snowball into the real winner through subsequent rounds of voting like James Garfield at the 1880 Republican Convention

Unless I'm misreading this Venice and TIFF bound "Rose of Nevada," which stars George MacKay and Callum Turner built its entire soundscape (so I would assume all dialogue and sound effects) in post production. Wild if so.
