Rates of baby deaths continued to decrease in 2023, mostly due to a reduction in stillbirths. Compared with 2022, stillbirth rates were lower in every nation of the UK and fewer newborns died in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. TIMMS

Persistent inequalities in baby deaths remained in 2023, with rates increasing for babies born in the most deprived areas for the third year running. Ethnic disparities also continued with Black and Asian babies more likely to die than White babies. TIMMS
