The #AngelOfTheNorth - 25 years old today. This unused postcard from our collections shows Antony Gormley's sculpture shortly after installation in 1998. The photograph is by Colin Cuthbert.

Happy 25th Birthday to the Angel of the North! On this day in 1998, the 208 tonne corten steel sculpture with a 177ft wingspan was unveiled in Gateshead, becoming an icon of British public art. Its wings are subtly angled forward by 3.5 degrees to create a sense of embrace.
