One of the most valuable uses of high quality sat imagery is late season corn plant health evaluation for harvest priority. This field showing rapid decline in many areas already & will need to be at top of harvest list. #harvest20 @GranularAg

Same story, different year. Avg 7.2 bu/ac yield loss (shrink + harvest loss) btwn 13% & 10% harvest mst, documented over 5 years. A lot of fields ā€œlookā€ green from the road, but the beans are dry. Stem borer lodging will make losses even bigger this year. Don’t sit idle.

Strip till ammonia concerns: with dry conditions since fertilizer was applied, watch for signs of burning as seedlings germinate. First sign is burning of the radicle (root) tip. Water IMMEDIATELY if this is observed.

Imbibational chilling. Photos don’t do this justice but it is easy to see how near-freezing water imbibed after planting can affect stand establishment and uniformity. Having seed in the ground for 12 to 24 hours prior to an anticipated freezing rain produces the best stand.
