I'm so excited that our new whale lab (Cetacea) is done! Pre-pandemic, we only had a few dolphin and porpoise skulls and some pictures, plus a piece of baleen. Now, we have 3d printed, reduced-sized skulls for every Family and super realistic, hand painted toys for most families!

Such a great visit today at Stqeeye’ Learning Society in Xwaaqw'um (Burgoyne Bay, Salt Spring Island) with Q'shintul Mill Bay Nature School to learn about their ecological restoration work and land-based learning for youth. We saw dolphins! 🐬🐬🐬 stqeeye.ca

Today was the last day of "Introduction of Biodiversity Specimens Digitalization" course organized by iDigBio. It is very useful and important to learn about digitalization collections - including basis of project management, georeferencing, photography, etc. I recommend

New entries in the comparative collection STARC - CYI. They enable more & reliable identifications of ancient animal remains through comparative osteology. Link to updated database will be posted soon. Unbelievable that collection now has 224 specimens (up 150+ in last 3 years!).

If it weren’t for the use of shell by Indigenous communities, many of the marsh islands of the GA coast would be underwater. These isolated uplands are KEY refugia for plants and animals and are linked to 45% of salt marsh ecosystem processes #archaeology #ecology

Our new paper out this week is an important one- Mongolia and its natural history collections are critically important to the global human story, and Mongolia deserves investment and support for the amazing work of its students, scientists, and museums. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
