Come work with me! Deadline extended to 26th Nov, to give people a few extra days🙂 Note: We can't sponsor a skilled worker visa for this role, but PhD holders should be able to apply for a Global Talent Visa if appointed.

We had heard about the challenges posed by motherhood within academia, but what about the previous stage? My friend Erika & I wrote our story for Science Magazine on how the academic system makes it almost impossible for women to even plan for a family ❤️‍🩹 science.org/content/articl…

To prevent one alcohol related illness among moderate drinkers (1 drink a day), about 25,000 people would need to quit entirely. Estimate from a systematic review, summarised here: medium.com/wintoncentre/t…

Interesting: Cross-gender friendships on facebook. EU and US are far from the most equal. Bangladesh/Somalia quite equal for muslim majority countries.

I wonder if AI will make the scale of dodgy research more legible. There is probably a lot to gain from discontinuing commonplace harmful treatments.

It’s a bummer that anthropologists generally don’t write long form ethnographies anymore. There’s been more than two decades of constant (highly productive) field work among the Tsimane for ex. & I don’t think there’s been any English language ethnographies on them in that time.
