I always shake my head when a player under the age of ~16 is labeled “pitcher only.” You’ll can overlook a lot of late bloomers, under-nurture athleticism, and take a lot of fun out of the game with those two words.

6/7/07 - Already throwing 98mph for Norwell HS in IN, the AZ #Dbacks selected 18-year-old RHP Jarrod B. Parker w/the 9th pick in the 1st Rd. To that date, Parker was 10-0, w/a 0.13 ERA in 55inn. w/101Ks, 15H and 8BB. AZ also selected Josh Collmenter in the 15th Rd. (463).

Some of the best players we've ever had stunk as 13 and 14 year olds. Why? They were undersized and too weak to play on the big field at that age. But. They were junk yard dogs and refused to be outworked, and ended up being great college or professional players. Be careful
