Dabei wurden große Mengen an gelöstem #Kohlenstoff und enorme #Methan-Speicher im Meeresboden entdeckt – begünstigt durch die starke #Erdbeben-Aktivität. Die Studie mit ersten Ergebnissen der Expedition wurde heute in Nature Communications veröffentlicht: uibk.ac.at/de/newsroom/20… (2/2)

Amazing new paper on the 2011 Tohoku M9 quake/tsunami source. They used the deepest-diving submersible in the world to visit the trench and found a 50+ m scarp in the high-slip zone, which directly implies 80-120 m of coseismic shallow fault slip. nature.com/articles/s4324…
