Excited to share our recent #genomemining paper in Laura Kiessling on discovery of the phosphonoalamides, antibacterial peptide natural products produced via a new route in #phosphonate biosynthesis. Congratulations to Chase Kayrouz Yeying Zhang pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…

Brilliant piece from Sean B. Carroll in The Atlantic on my scientific heroes Jacques #Monod - a brilliant scientist and a man of the utmost integrity- check out Sean’s book ‘Brave Genius’ to find out more too theatlantic.com/science/archiv…

We’re delighted to publish our latest on #phosphonate #biosynthesis in J. Am. Chem. Soc.! Yeying Zhang et al deciphered the complete pathway for the #antimicrobial #naturalproduct argolaphos, the origins of two non-canonical amino acids, and a new diverse group of oxygenase enzymes.

...And also an accompanying paper by Yeying Zhang et al published in J. Am. Chem. Soc. describing the complete #biosynthesis pathway of valinophos, the origins of new #phosphonate #naturalproduct scaffolds, unexpected ATP-Grasp ligase activities, and new metabolitc branch-points.
