Late Pope Francis was a champion of health equity. I am deeply honoured to be in the Vatican today to pay my last tribute to His Holiness. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of justice will live forever.

Today I addressed the G20 Joint Finance & Health Task Force w/ our World Health Organization (WHO) policy paper on promising high return options to ⬆️ health equity. Policies on social protection, housing, early childhood education, WASH & structural discrimination have great ROI. No excuse for inaction.

Economic growth is useless unless it delivers social benefits. GDP does not distinguish between $1 million in weapons and $1 million in healthcare. Even Simon Kuznets — the inventor of GDP — said that we need to be explicit about the actual objectives of economic growth.
