A thread on my recent experience with tutor2u, the lack of support for many A-Level Psychology teachers, and how we need to work together to find support systems that are not mediated by for-profit companies. #UkEd #Edutwitter #psychology

This is a bigger issue than just Psychology I fear. I was thrown out the Tutor2U Econ teacher Facebook group in Jan (I’d only just discovered it) for supposed ‘email harvesting’ to support my own tutoring offer! 😂 A group that exists as soft promotion for their own brand!!!

I have extensive experience in freely supporting economics teachers on Twitter, my blog, thru researchED, via work with oliver caviglioli, David Goodwin, Kate Jones, Nimish Lad, BrewEdCleethorpes, and others. So I find it curious why I was so quickly cut from the group for posts like this:

Another example of tutor2u kicking out experienced professionals from their groups: gatekeeping teacher support networks in pursuit of profit

Really awful news. Miss was a big influence on my thinking in lots of areas. Revision, curriculum design, assessment, and the value of teaching by just doing the simple things well, consistently. A big loss to the education community

General rules from cognitive science need to be adapted through a filter of subject specificity if we are to really get effective subject teaching, argue Mike Hobbiss and paulcline tes.com/magazine/teach…

"the most carefully and thoughtfully evidence-informed teacher in one subject may find their strategies don’t guarantee success in another" 👉Why subjects need their own take on the ‘cogsci revolution’ Great piece from Mike Hobbiss and paulcline tes.com/magazine/teach…

While the use of cognitive science research can aid teaching, it needs to be filtered and combined with the unique demands of individual subjects, say Mike Hobbiss and paulcline tes.com/magazine/teach…
