A1: a lot of things need to be assessed, let's start with content. Need to ass if you need to migrate all content or not. You need to come up with a new Information Architecture, and plan for compliance policies #CollabTalk

A1: continuing on... if you are moving from SharePoint On-Prem, you will need to check if you have any custom code, current 3rd party tools used, assess current design, and plan for the migration #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A1: Based on the environment assessment, you will need to plan the tool to be used for migration and what works best for your project #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A1: another item that many companies miss on the assessment, is the assessment of resources. Do you have the right skills internally to do the migration or do you need to hire external resource #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A2: Organizations are not ready when they jump into the migration without assessment or planning. They will migrate their content as is; so moving junk to your M365 without proper planning #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A3: We will always go back to planning. Poor planning will lead to a lot of gotchas. Some of them can be: custom code migration to M365. For this, re-assess if you need the custom code and try to ue the out of the box features. If not, then follow best practices. #CollabTalk

A3: Simplify your Information Architecture and use Hub Sites as much as you can. Use Traget Audience to simplify your content targetting and your Global Navigation #CollabTalk

A3: Bringing old design ideas to modern SPO is always a challenge that you need to overcome and use modern design and features #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A3: Stage your migration if you are migrating large volume of data; you cannot do all in one shot. Do the migration in multiple stages and plan for training. Don't assume knowing old classic on-prem SharePoint means users are experts in SPO #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A4: Content is what required 3rd party tools for migration. Assessing the content will determine what tools you require for the migration. SPMT works with on-prem and file share to SPO, but cannot scale; otherwise you will need to use other vendors #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A5: Security and Compliance, and the Information Management teams are very crucial to any migration to make sure the organization comply with the data being migrated to #Microsoft365 #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A6: Proper training for the end users, good change management plan, get the help desk ready for calls, plan and test your migration, then stage your migration. Never do it all at once #CollabTalk

Mike Maadarani (@mikemaadarani) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A7: Usage of SPO, data growth is a good indication of the usaeg of the sites, increase requests of SPO sites, increased questions to the Help desk about new or existing features of the platform #CollabTalk
