Very proud to have an article published in The Conversation about today's #SolarEclipse2024 and how eclipses relate to the study of exoplanets. theconversation.com/eclipses-arent…

Also today, I did a radio interview with RTÉ DriveTime, talking about the eclipse. The segment starts at 2:08:40 rte.ie/radio/radio1/d…

A lot of problems in the world at the moment come down to people expecting the explanation they were given at fifteen to fully explain reality. In my field a similar effect occurs with Newtonian mechanics: it's a good starting point, but eventually you need the rest of physics.

Reading a bunch of papers at the moment. Pet peeve discovered: Abstracts where it takes several reads to work out what the authors actually did. A lot of time seems to be wasted on context Big fan of the first sentence of the abstract being a 10-15 word summary of the main point

I'll be giving a talk this Saturday at 1pm in Explorium Ireland for Space Week, talking about Aliens and how to find them. It's targeted at schoolkids and a general audience, so it should be fun and accessible. Corrected the time in the post. explorium.ie/space-week/

I really like this. You can clearly see the annual and semi-annual exams in there, and some smaller peaks which probably relate to semesters or other sure recurring patterns in education.
