Open Middle mixedattainmentmaths Loved using open middle problems today for the 1st time... engaging at both the highest and lowest prior attainment levels. good for practising subtraction and addition and place value without them thinking about it!

Whether you are teaching #mixedattainmentmaths or setted, the tasks on Andrew Blair, PhD can help build Mathematicians' habits of mind, and definitely develop reasoning skills! This was a great interview which I really enjoyed. I hope you might to! #ResourceFULL

Today I used ratio tables to calculate the ratio of the diameter and circumference of circles, with faded examples. It went down really well with 2 different Year 8 classes White Rose Maths Secondary #mixedattainmentmaths

Switching to mixed ability groups has really made me question my views on setting. So many positives..although, finding it v challenging.

Mixed ability teachers, do you stand at the front teaching something to a small number of people in the class whilst the others work silently on something else? I’ve been trying to do this but worry it’s very distracting and wondering how others manage. @HelenHindle1

This is my second stint doing live online lessons in lockdown. I moved school mid lockdown earlier in the year and streamed live lessons to students I’d never met. It does get easier. I promise!

#mixedattainmentmaths This year covid restrictions meant some of us had to try mixed attainment teaching by default. What are your thoughts about continuing with it in the future? @HelenHindle1 Tom Francome

So tomorrow I'm going to get into an argument with my department around mixed ability teaching in year 7 and why I think it's right to do it. I don't think there's anything on our y7 curriculum that is inaccessible to any of them if we scaffold it correctly. Tell me I'm wrong..πŸ™„
