In the past year, OpenSearch has actively forged its own identity as a truly independent and innovative force in enterprise search, one that is quickly evolving to be much more than an Elasticsearch look-alike. infoworld.com/article/397147…

OpenSearch has moved from imitator to innovator in enterprise search, and is increasingly getting lots of things right with its community. On the eve of OpenSearchProj Con, I took a look at its last year of growth. infoworld.com/article/397147…

For Redis, there's lots to celebrate this year: - antirez bsky social's return to the Redis company/community - Redis' return to open source & - the Valkey fork 🤔 Yes, really. As Rowan Trollope says in an InfoWorld interview, now there's a level playing field infoworld.com/article/397562…

It's Friday in Utah, which means I'm about to order a May Flowers or Bloody Wild (dirty Diet Mtn Dew sodas). Dirty soda curious, are you? Well, watch my colleague Anaiya's video to learn more about Utah's weird-yet-awesome fixation with dirty sodas...and MongoDB.

Great that they're doing open weights but the reason for shipping a lesser version seems silly (China's DeepSeek is already ahead) and reminiscent of some old (and ineffective) open source licensing strategies

Picture taken a few minutes before my ski popped off and careened down toward Pittsburgh Lake. But it was all serenity up until that point (and Better Off Dead-style skiing right after 😂). You can see the back of Devil's Castle in the distance.

We at MongoDB have had fantastic results working with emily freeman and Forrest Brazeal. They're full partners with us and tell us when we're thinking about things wrong, and show how to improve.

I'm fascinated by how Cloudflare (and companies like it) use "free" to grow their business by making adoption easier for developers. It's not exactly apples-to-apples with open source, but is similar: opening access pays dividends beyond easy distribution blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflares-co…

AI has changed the way developers write code, which also means we must change the way we *test* code. Marcus for Peace asked me a provocative question: "Who will compile & test all this new AI generated code?" This InfoWorld post is my answer to him. infoworld.com/article/399451…

AI is big but, as Benedict Evans argues, "If you use five different LLMs every day, and haven’t done a Google search this year, and all your friends are the same…then you’re in a bubble, for now." Thoughtful analysis of the GenAI adoption puzzle ben-evans.com/benedictevans/…

I'm sure you live in a great place. But I'm also sure you don't get to ride Wire Mesa on a regular basis...but you can! Move to Utah and join me. 😘 Taken shortly before I broke my derailleur trying to clean a big rock and endo'd. 🤣 (But that can happen anywhere!)

If, as Coté suggests, we're at a "50/50 equilibrium" btwn private and public cloud today, it's the public cloud (and associated applications) that increasingly shapes the future infoworld.com/article/399974… (My column) for InfoWorld)
