Excited to share out labs’ latest: Congrats to Reagan Pennock, Luke Coddington, Xiaohiu Yan, Linda Overstreet-Wadiche & Jacques Wadiche. 'Afferent convergence to a shared population of interneuron AMPA receptors' (2023) Nat Comm. go.nature.com/42iT6ZX. A thread:

I was excited to give a lab tour this week to Oklahoma County Commissioner and mental health advocate Commissioner Carrie Blumert. We had a nice chat about brain research and the challenges of studying addiction.

Congrats to Will Lynch @wil1l_obie who just received his NOA for his F31 award on the role of Zhx2 in oxycodone metabolism and behavior! Shades of post-1989 USSR in the US since the GFC in 2008. Comparable countries bounced post-COVID, but US did not. ~1 million Americans have died of OD’s just since 2010; that’s more than the # of Americans that died in all wars America has ever fought in. Via Dan DiMicco

Hyperexcitable VTA dopamine neurons in an AD mouse model?! Check out our latest preprint where we use Patch-seq to ID a single enzyme & target it to restore normal firing. Work led by PhD student Harris Blankenship; big shouts to SharpeLab Freeman Lab doi.org/10.1101/2023.1…

I am so excited about stepping into this new role as Director of Vanderbilt Center For Addiction Research. Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt School of Medicine Basic Sciences and the addiction center have been so supportive of my career and I can’t wait to give back to the Vanderbilt community in this role.

What a great trip to Iowa to talk about our Alzheimer’s work and see the cutting edge science going on here. Thanks to the graduate students, faculty, and Stephanie Gantz for an amazing visit!

Exciting news from our lab at Duke University! We've used DART to block dopamine pauses mediated by GABAA receptors. This simple experiment led to three unexpected outcomes. Great week at #SfN24. I learned a ton but the highlight for me was watching Harris Blankenship represent our lab by presenting his Alzheimer's (and dissertation) work -- great job! Aging and Metabolism Research Program

Can we design allosteric modulators that change a GPCR's preferred G protein? Yes!💥 BAMs at the GPCR-transducer interface change G protein subtype selectivity in predictable ways, enabling rational drug design. The lab's 1st preprint! Check it out! doi.org/10.1101/2024.1… 🧵👇
